Dry Eye Care
Dry eye care: understand your symptoms.
Learn what dry eye is, how to recognize it and which treatment options to discuss.
What is dry eye?
Too few tears, or tears that evaporate too quickly, can leave the eye surface irritated.
Symptoms to recognize
Burning or grittiness, redness, light sensitivity, fluctuating blur and uncomfortable contact lenses may occur. Watery eyes can also be a symptom. An exam helps identify the cause.
Types of dry eye
Aqueous-deficient: too little watery tear production. Evaporative: tears dry too quickly, often related to the eyelid’s oil glands. Both can occur together.
Potential treatments
Options depend on the cause: artificial tears, screen breaks and protection from wind; eyelid care when appropriate; prescription drops; or tear duct plugs in selected cases. Your doctor can explain the benefits and limits.
